Napkin Freedom Flag
Sometimes a napkin has so much character that there isn’t much you need to do to bring it to life in your home decor! Check out this napkin DIY to see how you can make your own flag!
Everyone wants a stylish home for themselves, but few people want to spend top dollar for quality decor in today’s economy. It’s important to save money and create your own one-of-a-kind styles with DIY decorating! I’ll show you how easy it is to make an inexpensive personalized flag as décor for your home with style.
Here is what you need to make your own Freedom Napkin Flag:
- Freedom Flower Flag Napkin
- Wooden Plaque – the 6×12 size I used is in this bundle
- Red, white and blue paint
To start you’re going to paint the entire wooden plaque white. This is going to be the base for your stripes and make the napkin colors more vibrant.
Next you’re going to measure the the napkin and make sure you mark off the space where it will be. From there you’re going to use washi tape or painters tape and section off your flag stripes.
Next, you’re going to paint your stripes red. Depending on the red paint you are using, you will probably need to paint 2-3 coats.
Sand down to distress. This step is totally optional and based on personal style. IF you had any of the lines bleed, sanding takes those bleed lines away.
To adhere the napkin, I’m going to use the dry mod podge method.
In the space that you marked off for your napkin flower, paint a layer of mod podge and let dry. Peel the layers of your napkin apart and position it where you want it over the dry mod podge.
Cover with parchment paper, iron on, and then sand off any excess overhang.
I wanted to dress up the edges of this piece a little more and so I had some navy ruffled ribbon that worked perfectly. Hot glue it around the edge to finish it off.
