In this week’s Workshop Wednesday, we embarked on a journey that was more than just crafting – we dove into the profound symbolism of love, protection, and connection through a simple, yet powerful, canvas project. As Valentine’s Day approaches, I want to share with you a story of hearts – one that intertwines the divine love of Jesus, the earthly bonds we share, and how each influences the other.
We began with a piece from Dollar General – a large heart with a smaller one nestled within. As we traced this shape onto canvas, a story unfolded, one that speaks to the life we share with Jesus, our loved ones, and the world around us.
The outer canvas represents the encompassing love of Jesus, a protective embrace that shields us from the outside world. In my interpretation, this larger heart symbolized my husband – the guardian and leader of our family. His role is to protect and to guide, acting as a conduit of the love he receives from the Lord, symbolized by the red color of the heart.
The smaller, pink heart nestled inside symbolizes ourselves – vulnerable yet cherished, influenced by, yet distinct from, the larger heart. This represents the intimate bond between two people, whether it’s a spouse, children, friends, or any loved one. What’s intriguing is that while the smaller heart is mostly enveloped by the larger one, a portion of it still interacts with the outside world. This signifies our individual impact and the touch of God on our hearts.
As I painted, I blended the colors of the outer world and influence into each heart, representing how external forces shape our relationships. The intermingling of red and pink in each heart symbolizes the merging of our relationships into a unified expression of love.
As we approach Valentine’s Day, this project becomes a symbolic representation of the relationships we cherish – a canvas story that speaks to the bonds formed, protected, and influenced by love, both divine and earthly.
Just as the larger heart envelops the smaller one, let us accept and cherish the protective love in our lives, whether it comes from a divine source, a partner, or a family member.
Recognize the part of ourselves that interacts with the world. Nurture it to make positive impacts, reflecting the divine guidance we receive.
In our relationships, let’s mix the gray of the world and the reds and pinks of divine and human love, acknowledging how external experiences and spiritual insights shape our bonds.
Like the intermingling colors on our canvas, let’s blend our lives with those we love, creating a unified expression of care, understanding, and affection.
I invite you to view the finished project and watch the video of its creation to fully experience the story these hearts tell.
Let this be a reminder of the protective, influential, and loving relationships in our lives, and how each is a beautiful blend of divine guidance and earthly connection.
Remember, each stroke, each color, each shape on our canvas tells a story – and in this story, we find the heart of love.
