Let’s just say it—today feels heavy.
It’s Good Friday… and if you’re like me, you’ve probably asked at some point,
“Why do we call it good?”
Because honestly, what happened on this day doesn’t look good on the surface.
Jesus was betrayed.
Denied.
Mocked.
Beaten.
Nailed to a cross.
Left to die between two criminals while the people He loved watched.
It was dark. It was brutal. It was heartbreaking.
That’s the part that gets me every time.
He could have stopped it.
He had the power to say, “Nope. I’m done.”
But He didn’t.
He stayed on that cross—for me and for you.
Not because we had it all together.
Not because we checked every box.
Just… because He loved us that much.
It wasn’t the nails that held Him there.
It was love.
Good Friday always feels kind of still to me.
Like the whole world is holding its breath.
It’s the kind of day where I’m not rushing around. I’m just… quiet.
Because when I really think about what He went through—it makes me pause.
Today is the day we sit in the weight of it all.
Not to be sad for the sake of sadness, but because this matters.
The cross matters.
One of the things that gives me chills is remembering that when Jesus took His last breath,
the giant curtain in the temple tore from top to bottom.
That curtain used to separate people from the presence of God.
But the moment Jesus died, it was like God said,
“No more distance. Come close.”
Isn’t that wild? The very thing that was meant to keep people out—He ripped it wide open.
Honestly? We just sit with it.
You don’t need fancy prayers or the “right” words.
You don’t need to understand every detail.
Maybe you just say:
“Thank You, Jesus. You didn’t have to do it—but You did.”
That’s enough.
Read the story if you want (John 19 is a good place).
Or light a candle.
Or take five minutes to just sit in the quiet and remember that kind of love.
Good Friday is good not because of what happened that day,
but because of what came after.
It’s good because it wasn’t the end of the story.
The tomb doesn’t stay sealed.
The darkness doesn’t win.
So if you’re in a hard season, or today just feels heavy—hold tight to this:
He stayed.
He chose you.
And He’s not done yet.
Take a deep breath today.
Feel the weight of it, yes…
but don’t forget—hope is already on its way.
And Sunday?
Oh friend, Sunday is going to be so good.
