    Dear Teenage Son

Dear Son, You are foraging into tough years.  I know that and I see it.  Please know, that these years are going to be hard for me also.  Yes, I’ve been a teenager, but now I am experiencing all of it with new eyes.  Please be patient with me as I will be patient with you. Let’s get the first, and most awkward talk, out-of-the-way.  Girls.  I will have HIGH expectations for the girl you will bring around.  I will be jealous.  Yes, I know that sounds weird but you will understand when you have your own little girl.  I will understand that there will be girls you don’t bring…

EASY School Lunch Ideas and FREE Printable Lunchbox Notes

With the start of school, many parents are dealing with the packing of lunches every morning and having EASY school lunch ideas makes all of our morning go a lot smoother. Our school offers hot lunches but kiddos prefer to take their own everyday.   And let’s face it, my oldest is 15 and at 6’3″, the hot school lunches never seem to be enough, coupled with the fact that they would spend so much money on ala-carte items to make up for it.  School lunches were getting to be SO expensive for things that in my opinion wasn’t worth it. Buying, packing and getting lunches ready for the day can…

Holding Others As We Are Held

Babies are born with a preciousness that is beyond explanation.  The term precious means “honorable” and “of great worth not to be wasted or treated carelessly”.  We hold every newborn with a sense of preciousness.  Even in holding them, we are extra cautious..  They are innocent from the sins of the world and bring a sense of great worth when they come into being. Then we grow up.  As a toddler we commit sins in a selfish nature when we don’t want to share a certain doll or toy truck.  Simple, but nonetheless, a selfish sin.  As we grow older we may commit other, greater sins.  Maybe as a teenager…

Finding the Beauty in Your Struggle

The caterpillar and the butterfly is the epitome of beauty grounded in struggle.  The process of morphing from a caterpillar into a butterfly is actually a very painful process.  It’s hard to see when we are in the middle of the struggle, but when you arrive on the other side, 99% of the time, you begin to see where the beauty was hidden or when it emerged.  Even in death there is more waiting to be seen.  For almost everything, the beauty of the struggle is there waiting to be seen. It’s no secret that I suffer from depression.  Some say it’s due to circumstances surrounding me and others say…

I found this hutch that was a worn-out dated yellow color!  I’m sure in it’s day it was perfect for the homeowner, but it wasn’t the look I was going for.  I was, however, drawn to the detail!  All those little nooks and crevices really stand out when you use a wax or glaze over the top of…

Success at Work VS Success at Home

Pearls of Wisdom – Jennifer Wiltse

Those beautiful imperfections are what defines you.  It is in those imperfections that we are called to share and create beauty with others.  Just like a smooth marble has beauty, so does a rough and callused oyster shell.  An oyster shell is made to withstand a rough and tumble…

Middle of Nowhere or Center of Everything?

Middle of nowhere or center of everything? Middle of nowhere – the place of no contact with anyone or anything. Lost and distant from the connection in the world around you. Nothing that you know or anything that brings you comfort is around. The place where you feel fear and anxiety. Focus is on what you lack in the world. Center of everything – the place of centeredness and centering your soul. Connecting with the world even if no one is around. The vast openness brings you comfort in knowing there are things greater than you. A place to become grounded in who you are. A place where you feel…

    The PERFECT Angel Biscuits!

I have been in search of the PERFECT biscuit recipe for several months now.  Personally, I believe that Pillsbury Grands fits all my criteria for a good biscuit but I’ve been wanting to try my hand at some homemade ones. I’ve tried about six different recipes and they never turn out quite the way I want.  They were either too hard, tasted too much like flour, or it simply wasn’t the consistency I was going for.  Every recipe spins off of a pretty basic recipe, but some call for buttermilk, some do not, some call for self-rising flour, some do not.  I wanted something that was SIMPLE. In all the trial…

    Love and Commitment

Love and Commitment.  These words go hand in hand when you are talking about marriage.  That doesn’t mean that it all comes easy though. In the beginning, it’s all easy.  You meet someone you are attracted to, want to spend all of your time with, and share all of your life dreams with.  It’s easy.  You love this person with your whole being.  You want to commit to making this person the happiest and vice versa.  You envision a life of nothing but happiness because you vow to let nothing keep you from that. Then it gets hard.  Life gets hard.  You create a family.  You share this oneness but…
