Trashy Pumpkin Makeover with a Wind Turbine
This is the ultimate trash to treasure! Grab an old wind turbine and learn how to make your own trashy pumpkin in less than 10 minutes.
Every once in awhile I stumble upon an awesome piece of trash! Or in this case, my dad did. You know what they say, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”
As soon as I saw this old wind turbine, I immediately knew that it had to be a PUMPKIN! I mean look at those lines – I am SWOONING ????
My dad found two of these amazing wind turbines and snatched them up just knowing that I could do something cool with them. My husband LOVES {insert sarcasm} trash mysteriously arriving at my house from friends and relatives {love you honey}!
This is the simplest project you’re ever going to find on the blog, here!
Here’s how to make your own trashy pumpkin!
Give it a good cleaning and let it dry!
Grab some Rustoleum Real Orange Spray Paint that is durable for outdoor weather. This brand of spray paint is my favorite! It was the PERFECT color for the pumpkin I was creating.
Give it a good coat of paint {possibly two} and let dry completely.
Using a small dowel rod that fits into the top part of the wind turbine, cut it to about 8″. Hot glue in so it stays attached.
Attach some raffia and a bright green burlap ribbon and you have a PUMPKIN!!!
Isn’t she adorable? She makes my heart happy 🙂
Now, run out and go dumpster diving, or visit your local Habitat for Humanity Restore, or, I don’t know, beg your friends and family for one. I’m sure someone has a roof that needs a shiny new one 😉
{disclaimer – wind turbines tend to have sharp edges, please make sure you keep them away from little fingers…and use caution for yourself too}

I love it! No Habitat Restore within 100 miles and only an overpriced Salvation Army, but I’ll keep my eyes open.
