Why is a self care important? Learn exactly what this package is and how to create the perfect self-care kit for yourself or someone you know.
We live in a crazy world and it’s more important now to creating a routine of maintaining self care time. This isn’t a selfish act to perform for yourself, but a necessary thing for our emotional and mental health.
A self care kit is basically a care package or box filled with things related to self care. A self care kit can be in anything and include anything that helps you or the specific person practice self care. Self care, in it’s definition is the practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being and happiness.
This will all depend on you. You only want things that will help you take that precious time for yourself. If anything causes you stress or doesn’t help you take care of yourself, don’t put it in your kit!
A self care kit is personalized just for you, so everyone will have different items in their kit.
Self care is hard to practice, especially for moms. Having a kit that has everything you’ll need to take time for yourself right in one place will help you do self care more often.
A self care kit can also be the perfect gift for someone to show them how much you care about them.
1. Spa Supplies
The easiest and most common self care items to find are spa supplies. Usually, painting your nails or putting on body butter is all a busy mom can do for self care most of the time, so including a few easy spa day items in your self care package would be perfect!
Here are a few examples of things you can include:
You don’t have to get everything on this list, but choose a few you know you will actually use for yourself.
2. A Book or Movie
Add in your favorite book to read, or include one you’ve wanted to read for a long time. Reading is not only relaxing, but also therapeutic.
3. Journal
Journaling is on of my favorite self-care activities! It is another way to unwind and get all your thoughts out of your head. Most of the time, that’s what I truly need to do during my alone time.
As a mom, we often get so maxed out by everyone else’s emotions and that usually leads to burnout. By journaling and just writing down your thoughts every now and again, you’ll be able to release the build-up and stay a happy mom!
You can choose an empty journal or a guided one. It all depends on what you need. Many like just free writing all the thoughts that come to their heads. But, others need a question to jump-start their writing. It all depends on the person!
4. Candy
Always be sure to include at least a few pieces of candy. Some days, especially the hectic ones, eating a piece of candy is the best form of self-care and all you can squeeze in for the day.
Find a candy that you love and take your time to enjoy, savoring every bite. If you don’t enjoy candy, find a food that makes you savor the moment you eat it. Even a certain drink will work!
5. Gift Cards or Money
Always keep some cash or a few gift cards on hand. You never know when you’ll have time or energy to go out of the house for a self care day. Having a spot where you know you’ll have money to do something you enjoy will motivate you to wisely use that time!
Here are a few suggestions on gift cards or easy places to go for a self-care day:
Even just having a Visa gift card or $20 stored in there will make all the difference one day. Be sure to make a list of things to use that money for that you would enjoy to encourage you to actually use it for yourself!
If you keep cash in your self care kit, don’t take it out unless you are using it for yourself. You deserve that money, not anyone else. Treat yourself!
6. Affirmation Cards
This is another item to always include in your kit. Positive affirmation cards make all the difference for women. Not only does it build up your self-confidence, but it also helps you truly know your worth.
You can create your own, or buy some online. There are so many fun-designed ones for all sorts of things you might need to work on. They can be as simple as “I deserve this time for me. I love myself. I am enough.”
This is another item that is very personalized for the person who will use the kit. Be sure to have this in the front so you can actually read it as you walk by to remind yourself that you are worth it and you deserve self care.
Self care kits are crucial for everyone! I love making these as gifts because you can personalize them for any occasion or person! Turn these care packages into a postpartum-themed one for a new mama, a newly married or birthday spa kit. The options are endless!
