Easy DIY Watermelon Banner

Whether you’re hosting a b-day party or summer pool party, this Easy Watermelon Banner made from cupcake wrappers is going to make an impression!

When it comes to parties, the decorations are almost as important as the food! At least in my mind 🙂 I want people that attend a party with me to feel completely immersed in the theme of whatever party we are hosting. Although I like creating decorations, I also don’t let it take over to where it makes the celebration complicated. You want to be able to enjoy yourself and relax a little bit too.

Thankfully, all of my DIY’s are easy and can done in a little bit time and this Easy Watermelon Banner is no exception!

When it comes to summer, nothing says sweet summertime like the juicy flavor of watermelons. They also make for the best backdrops since you can use such bright and fun colors.

Here’s how you can make your own Easy Watermelon Banner:

• Paper doilies
• Green standard size cupcake wrappers
• Pink mini sized cupcake wrappers
• Glue
• Sharpie
• Twine or string

To start, you’re going to want to choose cupcake wrappers that match your theme. I opted for a white polka dotted green wrapper for my rind. You could just use the cupcake wrappers but I chose to add a white paper doily just to dress it up a little bit.

Determine how many “watermelons” you want and begin by folding all of your pieces in half. Each “watermelon” will consist of three parts.

Once you have all of your pieces folded, you are going to layer them on top of each other as shown.

Then using some paper string or twine, wrap your watermelon pieces around the string and glue to secure. I glued each layer to the previous.

To display it, I found a garland on clearance at Michael’s and it matched perfectly! Using a sharpie, draw small “tear drops” onto the pink cupcake wrappers to resemble the watermelon seeds.

I laid the Easy Watermelon Banner underneath the garland and it was the perfect touch.

I took this project, along with some other fun watermelon projects to a local TV show and shared all kinds of DIY’s with our local viewers.
