This Faux Hot Cocoa Ornament is so much fun you’re going to want to make several to give as gifts!
There’s something about creating ornaments that brings a little nostalgia to your holidays! I remember making ornaments as a kid that included coffee filter snowflakes and stringing popcorn for the garland.
As an adult I still like to make ornaments but I like them to be something I would give as a gift to a neighbor or friend.
These Faux Hot Cocoa Ornaments are so cute that you’re definitely going to want to make some! Keep some for yourself and make a few extra to give to family and friends.
First, you’re going to want to coat the inside of your cup with paint leaving a small section at the top unpainted. This may take a couple coats. Make sure to let it dry completely between coats.
Next, you’re going to take your small foam ball and hot glue to the inside bottom. This is just going to act as a filler.
Using an icing bag and a large star decorating tip (I have one specifically for crafting as to not contaminate my food one), fill your bag with a lightweight spackling compound.
Cut a small piece of cardboard to fit the top of the cup.
Using hot glue, line the edge of the cardboard and fill in but not completely.
You’re wanting to create a look like this…
Once your hot glue is dry, paint over the top with your brown paint.
It creates this cool effect that makes it look like a real hot cocoa drink!
Using your decorating bag, pipe a swirl of spackling compound so that it resembles whipped cream. Don’t go all the way to the edge because you want to be able to see some of the hot chocolate around the edges
Sprinkle some candies onto the whipped cream before it dries and insert a small straw that you cut to size.
Using super glue and tweezers, glue some smaller candy sprinkles to the hot chocolate around the base of the “whipped cream”.
Lastly, take some twine or just and tie to the handle of the cup to create a hanger.
What do you think? SO CUTE, right?!
I am confident that this is something you can create and give as gifts to your neighbors or friends!
I just think it’s the cutest!
