Elegant Furniture Transformation with Rust-o-leum

Transforming your treasured pieces is a breeze when you use Rust-o-leum’s Furniture Transformations Kit! I was able to take an old vintage desk and turn it into an AMAZING piece of furniture that I am happy to sit at multiple times a week to work at.
Check out how easy this Vintage Desk Transformation was and how you can transform a piece of your own! This piece took a total of two days for me to complete and most of that was drying time.
Everything that you need to complete a project of your own is included in the Furniture Transformation Kit
Make sure your piece is clean and free from debris and old gunk.
Using the Step 1 Clean and Degloss, apply the gloss liberally to the scrub pad that is included in your kit. Scrub the entire surface to remove all dirt and grease. After deglossing, wipe clean and let dry. Remove all of your handles and drawers when you are cleaning it all up.
STep 2 is applying the bond coat. This is the fun part where you get to start playing with color. I chose a blush color for my office desk since I am revamping the colors in my office to Blush and Navy. The Blush color is very elegant on this originally dark piece of furniture! I used a total of two coats, letting each coat dry for a couple hours before applying again. Once I was pleased with the coverage, I let it set overnight to thoroughly dry and cure.
There is a decorative glaze in the kit but I opted to not use it since I was going for light and bright colors and the glaze was a dark brown. For this project I would have used a white glaze. If you’re new to glazing, it’s perfect for pieces that have lots of accented corners. With the glaze you brush it on and wipe it off and it stays on all the accented spots. It really is beautiful! I did it on my kitchen cabinets with the white over a gray and it was heavenly.
Step 4 is the Protective Top coat. For the majority of the desk I only use one coat but I opted for two coats on the top since it will get a lot of wear and tear from daily use. The feel if absolutely amazing and smooth! This paint and protective top coat all melds together so you don’t see or feel any of the brush strokes.
Before I put the drawers in and the handles back on, I had to fancy them up a bit. For the handles I used a gold glitter spray paint and for the drawers, I used a drawer liner that was the perfect accent for this piece.
It makes me happy when I am working and see the bright fun pattern!
