This easy Quilled Easter Egg DIY will have you feeling like you’re a professional paper quiller in no time! If you’ve never tried quilling, now is your time!
Quilling has always seemed super intimidating to me! Looking at all of the rolled paper strips and seeing them transform into beautiful creations has always been something I’ve wanted to try.
This Quilled Easter Egg was the perfect project for my first try at quilling! I think I’m in love and I can bet you will be too after you try your hand at it.
Select different colored paper quilling strips. For this craft you will basically need to make 3 different shapes; loose coil, teardrop shape and lens shape. Loose coil shape will be used mostly and the other shapes are for filling the egg shape.
Instructables has some great how-to’s on basic quilling techniques! There’s even a GREAT video that walks you through the steps.
Trace the provided egg template on a piece of thick craft paper and cut it out nicely.
Start to add the quilled shapes on the egg cut out. Start gluing the shapes either from top or from the bottom side of the egg template. Apply glue on places where you would add the quilled shapes right away.
Place the quilled shapes on the glued part and press them gently against the glued part. Try to level the quilled shapes with the border of the egg.
Continue to add the quilled shapes and filling the egg shape halfway through nicely.
Once half of the egg shape is filled, start to fill the egg shape from the other end.
Use teardrop shapes to match the quilled patterns with the egg shape.
Also, use the lens shaped quilled pieces to fill the small gaps.
Allow the glue to dry.
This Quilled Easter Egg would be perfect to add to the front of a card or you can make several and make a banner for your mantle! This is a great project to do with your kiddos too!
